What this is
Wharton County Facts is an independent criticism and commentary website about Wharton County, Texas and the public bodies that serve it, operated by Theroglabs LLC of Houston, TX. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Wharton County government or any of its offices, the City of Wharton, or any school district. Criticism of government is protected expression under the First Amendment.
How we label things
- Fact boxes (blue) cite government or primary sources, or reporting by reputable news outlets. Each carries its source inline.
- Third-party boxes (gray) carry data from commercial aggregators (BestPlaces, Ownwell, CrimeGrade, etc.). We consider these weaker and label them so.
- “Our take” boxes (amber) are opinion, and say so.
- “In fairness” boxes (green) are positive facts we include for credibility and balance.
Which entity is which
The City of Wharton, Wharton County, and the independent school districts (Wharton ISD, El Campo ISD, East Bernard ISD, and others) are separate legal entities with separate elected bodies, budgets, and responsibilities. The hospital closure and water-system items are city-level; school ratings are district-level; the levee is a City of Wharton / U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project. Each page attributes its facts to the entity actually responsible.
What we will not do
- We do not target private individuals — only public bodies and the documented official actions of public officials.
- We do not allege corruption or criminal wrongdoing by county officials. We searched; we found no reputable reporting of any, and we say so plainly.
- We do not use official seals or logos, and we do not imitate official county communications.
Corrections
If any factual claim on this site is wrong or out of date, we want to fix it — email contact@theroglabs.com. When a cited fact changes — a rating improves, the levee is completed, a facility opens — the page is updated and the change noted. Where an agency has published nothing new (for example, the City of Wharton levee page, unchanged since April 2022 as of our July 2026 check), we say “no updates” rather than guessing.
